WELCOME to Growing Up a Baby Boomer Blog. My name is Doug Vairo and I was born in 1955; smack in the middle of the baby boomer generation. Approximately 77 million baby boomers were born from 1946 to 1964. This blog is just an extension of all the great memories many of us have when talking to our friends. We are the generation that saw the emergence of Rock N’ Roll, the invasion of the Beatles, the Vietnam war, Civil Rights and man walking on the moon just to name a few. Living in the city gave you two types of surfaces to play on, concrete and asphalt. Any city park with dirt and grass was two bus rides away. The biggest yard was maybe 25 feet across and most were packed with tables, chairs and an occasional above ground pool. Since this was all were knew, we never gave it a second thought.
